What is Halotherapy?

Imagine doing something as simple as sitting in a comfortable chair, relaxing, breathing, and feeling positive effects on your mind, body, and spirit.  That is the essence of halotherapy in a salt cave.

Halotherapy is achieved by grinding up pharmaceutical grade salt into microscopic particles and dispersing it through the air via a halogenerator.  Salt is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.  The microscopic particles are able to penetrate deep into the lungs, absorbing allergens, toxins and foreign substances throughout the respiratory tract.  This may help to reduce inflammation, break up congestion, and open airway passages.

Halotherapy is beneficial to the skin as well.  Just as a dip in the ocean's salt water can have healing properties on our skin, the benefits of salt therapy can be realized in the salt cave.

Halotherapy is a safe, holistic, natural, drug free therapy that can be used by almost anyone.  It's a hands-off treatment that has no known adverse effects.

Is Halotherapy a Fad?

No - quite the opposite!  Because of salt's antibacterial, anti-microbial, and an anti-inflammatory properties, it has been used in the realm of health and wellness for thousands of years.  The practice of using salt to open a person's airway goes back to the ancient Greeks.  "Halo" is the Greek word for Salt, hence in the term halotherapy.

Modern day dry salt therapy has its origins from the salt mines and caves in Europe.  Miners working in the caves were found to have remarkable health.  The Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland was the first to offer spa-type services to the public in 1839.  Today, dry salt therapy is well recognized throughout Europe and is catching on in the United States and around the world.

How does it work?

Three characteristics of salt make Halotherapy so therapeutic:

1. Anti-Inflammatory: The microscopic particles of salt that are inhaled may help to reduce inflammation in the airway and sinuses, leading to open airways and better oxygen intake.

2.  Anti-Bacterial: As salt enters your respiratory tract, it can kill bacteria, viruses, and pollutants.

3. Super Absorbent: Salt is extremely absorbent.  Once it enters the respiratory tract, it will attract foreign substances.  Your body will naturally expel this, acting as a detox for your lungs.  Drinking lots of water after a session will help!
